Trendy Vs. Stylish

Wearing trendy pieces does not make you cool. I was walking back from class today, and saw a spotted pin stripe, low rise flare pants. So cool. I go to look at the girl.. And she's wearing a cropped sheer blue sweater and Asics. No hate to her at all. Wear what you want. But this sighting made me feel as though it would be a disservice not to provide this harsh love.

Owning “trendy” items does not count towards style. I have been thinking about this even prior to today. Most if not all my basics are from Brandy Melville. Yes, Brandy Melville. Super trendy, has received a lot of hate for being basic. Whatever. I went last week and spent way too much and was thinking, I get a lot of compliments on my style yet I wear a lot of classic and “basic” brands. Your clothes are not worth anything off your body. It is how you style the pieces and tailor them to your personal style.

Wearing brandy clothes does not make me basic. If you think you look basic, it’s your fault, not the clothes - sorry! Some people don’t care and that is totally ok. More power to you. But for those who do, try adding an unexpected shoe. Swap out the sneaker for a tabi or ballet flat (these have been my go-to), out with the crop tops and in with the baggy t-shirts or big sweaters in a bright yellow. Mix colors, mix patterns, fabrics, wear something that someone is going to question.

That’s all for now. I just had to get that out of my system.
